What are essential oils made from?

Essential oils can be made from:

  • Petals
  • Leaves
  • Roots
  • Buds
  • Twigs
  • Rhizomes (The underground stems)
  • Wood
  • Bark
  • Resin
  • Fruit

    • There are several ways of obtaining the oil, the most common is steam distilliation.

    This is when the plant material is put into a large container and hot steam is forced through it. The heat and pressure then force tiny droplets of the oil to release into the steam, which travels through a tube, cooling the steam and creating a liquid.
