Incense has been used for thousands of years for helping bring in altered states.
You can obtain these in many new age shops, and easily online.
Aroma
Aromatherapy oils, like francense, lavender, jasmine and sandalwood are particulary useful.
You can blend them yourself, you may prefer your own combination.
These can help bring in a sense of calm.
Sound
Calm, quiet music can really help.
Ambient, electronica, classical, anything slow, calming and relaxing is beneficial.
Subliminal Tapes
Subliminal tapes attempt to bypassing the conscious level of mind to get to deeper mental levels.
Subliminal video is now available, combining visual messages and spoken word.
Flowers
Flower essences are being used more often now to help you meditate.
These operate on a very subtle level, and are not a quick fix, but many find them really helping.
Remember, these things WILL help, but are not going to make you instantly enlightend.
