What it does

the root has a laxative, tissue restorative and midly tonic action, and is used in rheumatism, bilious complaints and haemorrhoids. It is very useful in treating jaundice, diseases of the blood, scurvy, chronic skin diseases and as a tonic for the digestive system. It has similar effects to that of rhubarb and has been used in threating diptheria.
