What it does

This herb has similar effects to fennet and caraway, but its use has declined due to its unpalatable taste. It has considerable reputation in relieving flatulence due to slow digestion and as a remedy for colic and dyspeptic headache. Applied externally as a plaster, it was used to ease stitch and pains in the side, and has been combined with other herbs to form a stimulant liniment.
